Author Mentoring

Do you long to write a book?

Author mentoring is one way to get down on paper the book you’ve always wanted to write, with the help of a professional book editor. Are you one of the many people who have a longing to write? Perhaps there’s been a story in your head for years, and you keep saying to yourself that one day, you’ll get it down, you’ll write that book. They say we all have at least one book in us. So why not write it?

The question for many is, ‘Where do I start? How do I know if my writing is enough or good enough?’ It can be an exhilarating process to write the story that has been so desperate to be written, but it can also be a lonely experience.

Joining a writer’s group can help, especially when it comes to motivation, but a writer’s group won’t provide the professional help that can be the making or breaking of your story. You could just go ahead and write your book, beginning to end, enjoying the thrill, enjoying the creative buzz it gives you, and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, many times, I have worked with authors who have done exactly that, given me their story to edit, and then found it difficult to go back and work on it. This is their baby, their life’s work. Why should they change it?

Your first draft is a work in progress, and it is through editing and rewriting that you truly learn how to be a writer. However, what if you were to work with an editor from the get-go? This is where author mentoring comes in, offering an alternative route.

When you opt for author mentoring, you get:

  • Someone you can discuss your story plot and structure with, to ensure you have everything in place before you start writing.
  • Someone you can work with, chapter-by-chapter
  • Someone who can help you along the way, so you learn as you write.

This is exactly what author mentoring gives you. Think of it as someone holding your hand throughout the process, so you don’t have to go it alone.

Does that sound like something of interest to you? Talk to me about what I can offer. Whether it’s an arranged number of words per week/month, however you choose to do it, you’re in charge of setting the pace. You can even organise one-on-one Zoom sessions with me (or face-to-face if you’re nearby).
